Location: The Stack, Cape Town
‘When is the next party? Settle down …’
‘The Sauvignon Blanc went down singing hymns …’
– LEW ROOD
I look backed at 25 years ago here in Cape Town when I celebrated a landmark birthday at the then Freda’s restaurant (now the much changed Café Paradiso) – then a very special venue. So what to do as another milestone arrived? Do something to celebrate life. My venue of choice was without hesitation The Stack and we filled the restaurant and bar to capacity, not a single no show. Special thanks to The Stack for providing a unique venue whose history I have known for many years. A nostalgic and I’m afraid sentimental element for me, was my friend Tina Schouw and her musicians setting the scene, yet again, 25 years on.
Sadly, many friends and family here and elsewhere who were invited could not be with us at the party – we missed them. Apologies to those who don’t appear in the pics here – we know you were there!
Thank you to my always eloquent brother Louis for his kind words, and also to my longstanding friend and fellow traveler Brenda James for her commentary on the life I have led. I must sincerely too, thank you to those from far and wide who made the journey to be with me on my birthday, I hope that you enjoyed the party as much as I did and that the pics alongside bring back happy memories of the evening. By the way, you can click on the photos to enlarge them.
