StreetSmart, a non-profit organisation that started in the UK, is a conduit fundraising body, distributing funds to several beneficiaries. In 2005 the South African chapter was started by Margi Biggs, and it focuses on working with street children and children at risk of that lifestyle – a growing problem on South African streets. Lew was part of the team that helped set it up and continues to support it. StreetSmart SA, under the patronage of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, raises fund by collecting donations from diners at restaurants throughout the country. These funds then go towards outreach, as well as providing shelter, education, skills training and family reunification.
The travel industry is constantly changing and it’s important to keep up with new developments. Keep in touch with Lew’s experiences here.
