His extensive professional and personal networks, coupled with his discerning eye, augers well for those who can now employ his services on a project basis.
Lew’s varied and extensive experience has its roots in the hotel industry. Being one of the first students to successfully graduate from the original Hotel School in Johannesburg, his studies encompassed training in deluxe properties both locally and abroad. He then went on to join Sol Kerzner’s Southern Sun Hotels in Durban before accepting a position in SATOUR’s (now SA Tourism), London office where he planned itineraries for travellers to Southern Africa and educated the UK travel trade on the South African travel market. Returning to South Africa, he joined Springbok-Atlas, then part of Tollgate Holdings, where he took care of international sales for the company.
His frequent travels abroad, attendance at trade shows and calls on the travel industry worldwide provided Lew with further industry insight, whilst cementing lasting friendships in the travel trade and travel media. Lured to Johannesburg by Conservation Corporation (today, &Beyond), he assumed the position of International Sales Manager for their lodge portfolio which included Singita’s Sabi Sand Reserve. He was later tasked with opening Singita’s sales, marketing and reservations office which now has its headquarters in Cape Town. Over the years, Lew has been involved in the sales, marketing and public relations of this internationally awarded, conservation and hospitality leader, travelling extensively and spreading the Singita message of excellence.
